Physical therapy can help if you are experiencing hip pain while sitting. This ball and socket joint bears much of the body’s weight. If you are someone that experiences hip pain frequently or while sitting, you will be happy to know that exercises, treatments, and stretches may help. You do not have to keep suffering if you currently have hip pain.

What Causes Hip Pain While Sitting?

Among other causes, hip pain while sitting could be caused by:

Piriformis syndrome

The piriformis is a small band of muscles that runs along the sciatic nerve and aids in mobility. It can lose flexibility, become strained, or compromised in some way. These can lead to hip pain that does not go away.

Hip bursitis

Bursae are fluid filled sacs found in different parts of the body. The hip has them too and when they become inflamed, this is called bursitis.

Femoroacetabular impingement

FAI is caused by a deformity in either part of the hip joint — either the ball or the socket. Because of the deformity, the hip joint may not be moving properly and this can cause you to have pain.
