Is Elbow Pain Affecting Your Life? Find Out the Cause.

Elbow pain can definitely affect your life.  Your elbow is an intricate joint which allows you to extend and flex your forearm and rotate your hand and forearm.  It may be difficult to describe what exactly brings on your elbow pain since most movements are a combination of those actions.

What are Common Injuries that Cause Elbow Pain?

Tendonitis in the elbow is a common problem and often called tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow.  The injuries can affect athletes as the names suggest, however overuse injuries can lead to elbow pain as well.  Sports, hobbies or jobs that require repetitive hand, wrist or arm movements may make your elbow joint more prone to wear-and-tear damage.

What are Common Causes of Elbow Pain?

  • Bursitis
  • A broken arm
  • Dislocated elbow
  • Elbow fracture
  • Golfer’s elbow
  • Tennis elbow
  • Sprain and tears in your ligament
  • Osteoarthritis
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Tendinitis
  • Stress fractures
  • Throwing injuries
  • Trapped nerves

Treatment for elbow pain may include rest, ice packs, anti-inflammatory medications, cortisone injections, compression, elevation, stretching and exercises to strengthen the elbow in order to regain full mobility.
